the watchman

crazy lazy whiny baby beagle dog

Posted in duke ellington the dog, photography by Benjamin Toalston on August 25, 2008

Ok, so the title pretty much describes my dog, except for the adjective lazy.  Well, mostly.  He’s lazy when I’m lazy.  Wait a second.  Actually, that might be slightly true.  At least, more than I’d like it to be.

Duke Ellington is a great dog.  He’s smart and very loving.  Would I call him my best friend?  No, but I’m his.  And so are you.  As time allows I may write some more on the character that is Duke Ellington the dog, and I’ll try and post some videos too.  He’s got some sweet skillz he’d like to show you!

commit your way

Posted in spiritual by Benjamin Toalston on August 19, 2008

Have you ever written something to come back and speak to you a few years down the road?  I wrote this a few years ago and rediscovered it recently…

“Commit your way to the Lord for He is the way, the truth, the light.  He is the only one who can bring about righteousness and justice in the earth.  For it is who he is, and so He acts.  No man can do it, for man is powerless to defeat the enemies of righteousness and justice.  As a man thinketh in His heart, so He is.  It is because of this truth that we must look to Him.  For their is none righteous, no not one.  We have all fallen short.  In all the strength of man, death remains.  What man is crying from his grave that he brought all wrong things to an end?  What man from the grave is boasting in his accomplishments?  What man in the grave is boasting in his defeat of it?  There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.  There are bones in the ground, there is dust in the air that proclaim the plight of man.  They tell of sadness, sorrow, death.  But there is a man whose bones did not lay still.  There is a man whose breath was brought again.  There is a man who befriended the grave for a moment to demonstrate his power against it.  There is a man who took death in his mouth, tasted and swallowed.  There is a man who through death, destroyed it.”

Amen.

breakfast

Posted in practical by Benjamin Toalston on August 6, 2008

I enjoy making breakfast for myself, and am interested in different ways of preparing breakfast.  I may post some pictures here of some breakfasts I’ve made recently, but we’ll see.  Is that weird?  To take photos of the food that you’ve made? “Not if you want to share with Mom or other people what you’ve done!”, I told myself.  And so it is.  What are some of your favorite ways to make eggs?  Please leave instructions, so I can try it!
